Mayor Patrick Cannon today announced that Tuesday, February 25 – Saturday, March 1, 2014 has been proclaimed “CIAA Week” throughout Charlotte, as the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) arrives in town to celebrate its 69th annual men’s and women’s basketball tournament.
The City of Charlotte is hosting the CIAA Tournament for a ninth year with 22 games and tens of thousands of fans and guests expected to attend over a five-day period.
“The CIAA tournament provides a positive impact for the City of Charlotte through economic benefits to hotels, restaurants, rental companies, services, entertainment venues and temporary employment,” said Mayor Cannon. “Charlotte is proud to be the CIAA Tournament Host City to showcase our world-class customer service and southern hospitality.”
The tournament is also expected to generate approximately one million dollars in scholarship funds for member colleges and universities in 2014.
