Mayor Clodfelter welcomes Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority to Queen City
"On behalf of Charlotte’s City Council and our citizens, it is my pleasure to welcome the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated to the Queen City for their 66th Boule. We are thrilled that Charlotte was chosen for this event. Founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, DC in 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is the oldest Greek-letter organization established by African American college-educated women.
Their influence extends far beyond college campuses. The Alpha Kappa Alpha legacy speaks volumes in every community as members endeavor daily to provide “service to all mankind” through their primary program initiatives: health, training, human rights, economic security, global poverty and Emerging Young Leaders. The impact of their mission, “Global Leadership through Timeless Service” is recognized in Charlotte and far beyond.
I know all of their sessions will be engaging and beneficial. But, I hope members will also take some time to experience all that Charlotte has to offer. To all of the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha, thank you for turning Charlotte pink and green. Enjoy the rest of your time in our great city!"
