CHARLOTTE, NC — “On behalf of the City Council, I would like to thank all of our citizens and guests who are taking part in the 2014 Speed Street Festivities and the Coca-Cola 600 this weekend. NASCAR has a special place in the heart of Charlotte, as it is deeply rooted in our history. This year, Speed Street celebrates a special 20th anniversary. The event attracts more than 400,000 people over a three-day period, making it one of the largest events of its kind in our region.
Charlotte remains one of only two cities to have three major Sprint Cup races, and our city serves as home to the NASCAR Hall of Fame. The motorsports industry has a $6 billion economic impact in North Carolina and supports approximately 25,000 jobs. We thank NASCAR for their continued contributions to the local economy and for making Charlotte home of the Coca-Cola 600 race weekend.”
