Frederick W. Ahrens (1867-1868)

Public Service:
Ahrens was appointed Mayor by North Carolina Provisional Governor William W. Holden during the reconstruction following the Civil War.  He served two terms as Mayor.

Personal:
Ahrens was a building contractor, sash and door manufacturer and ex-building inspector.  He served as the general building contractor for City Hall built at Tryon and Fifth streets at the cost of $40,000.
