H.M. Pritchard (1865-1866) (1868-1869)
Public Service:
Dr. Pritchard was appointed as Mayor by the North Carolina Provisional governor William W. Holden during the Federal occupation following the Civil War. 

He served for six months, presiding over an appointive board known as aldermen. Prior to his appointment, Dr. Pritchard served in the N.C. House of Representatives.

  • Charlotte was in the Reconstruction period following the Civil War.
  • Slavery ended in North Carolina, December 4, 1865.
  • Mary Anna Morrison Jackson (wife of Stonewall Jackson) moved into a home on West Trade Street. Stonewall Jackson died from wounds suffered at the battle of Chancellorsville, Virginia.
