F. Marion Redd (1927-1929)
Public Service:
Redd served as Charlotte's Mayor from 1927 through 1929.

Personal:
An Onslow County native, Redd came to Charlotte as a retail clerk.  He later became an attorney and won a wide reputation as an enlightened judge of juvenile court.

During his Administration:

  • The new Ford plant on Statesville Road began producing Model-A Forms.
  • The City built the Armory Auditorium as a combination sports arena, trade mart and convention hall.
  • Charlotte voters adopted a change to a Council/Manager form of government. That form authorized five council members with the Mayor chosen from one of their number. The Council was elected from Charlotte's 11 wards. A City Manager was appointed by the Council.
