Served as Charlotte's Mayor from 1949 to 1953.

A Charlotte native, Shaw was a tire and battery dealer.

  • Bonds were approved for Ovens Auditorium and the Charlotte Coliseum (now Bojangles Coliseum) on Independence Boulevard.
  • Douglas Municipal Airport was expanded.
  • WBTV went on the air as the Carolinas' first television station.
