The Small Business Opportunity (SBO) Program is race and gender neutral program that ensures small business participation in contracting and subcontracting opportunities with the City of Charlotte.  It applies to all aspects of the City's contracting and procurement programs, including but not limited to the purchase of apparatus, supplies, materials, equipment, construction projects, all service contracts, and equipment rental and lease agreements.

Introducing the Crowns of Enterprise Awards
In celebration of Small Business Month, the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County are now accepting nominations for the inaugural 2012 Charlotte-Mecklenburg Crowns of Enterprise Awards. The Crowns of Enterprise Awards were developed to recognize and honor small businesses that have demonstrated exemplary leadership and sound business strategies.

Businesses interested in being considered should submit an awards nomination form by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 23, 2012.

Small Business Training and Development

The Small Business Opportunity Program is designed to assist certified Small Business Enterprises (SBEs) in growing, enhancing and developing their businesses. City certified SBE’s can enroll in free ($300 maximum) courses at Central Piedmont Community College – Institute for Entrepreneurship (IE). 

IE offers numerous classes for small business owners such as Budgeting and Forecasting, QuickBooks 2011 and Sales Success: Making Your Sales Soar.
