Housing Locational Policy

UPDATE: The 2011 Housing Locational Policy was approved by City Council on March 28, 2011.
The original Housing Locational Policy was created in 2001 to provide Council a guide for the financing and/or development of new affordable housing projects.
The City of Charlotte conducted five public forums during the months of July and August to give citizens a chance to provide feedback on the draft Housing Locational policy.
If citizens were not able to attend one of the designated forums or Housing & Neighborhood Development Committee meetings, they may email questions and comments to HLP@charlottenc.gov.
- October 18, 2010: The Housing & Neighborhood Development Committee voted to approve the proposed revised Housing Locational Policy.
- November 8, 2010: The policy was presented at the City Council Dinner Briefing.
- November 22, 2010: A Public Hearing on the Housing Locational Policy was held at the City Council meeting.
- Sixteen speakers focused on three similar concerns; the 1/2 mile radius provision, the 5% cap on affordable housing and exemptions from the policy.
- Council referred the policy back to the Housing and Neighborhood Development Committee for revisions.
- December 16, 2010: Housing Services staff convened the individuals who spoke at the public hearing to discuss the issues raised.
- January 5, 2011: Staff presented the feedback received from the group to the Housing and Neighborhood Development Committee for further discussion.
- February 2, 2011: The Housing & Neighborhood Development Committee voted to approve the proposed revised Housing Locational Policy.
- February 28, 2011: The revised policy was presented at the City Council Dinner Briefing.
- March 28, 2011: The policy was approved by City Council
