On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, which includes $1.5 billion for a Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP). The purpose of this program is to provide financial assistance and services to individuals and families at risk of becoming homeless or help those who are experiencing homelessness to be quickly re-housed and stabilized.
The City of Charlotte received $1.9 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to provide assistance under HPRP.
The City is partnering with local homeless service providers, W.I.S.H. (Workforce Initiative for Supportive Housing) and Crisis Assistance Ministry to assist individuals and families in the Charlotte/Mecklenburg through HPRP.
