(Charlotte, N.C.)  -- The City of Charlotte’s Mayor’s Youth Employment Program (MYEP) is introducing a new MYEP Job Skills Certification program for local high school students. On January 24 at 5:00 p.m., MYEP will host its second annual Energy Career Discovery Day event at Discovery Place, where Charlotte’s Mayor Pro Tem Patrick Cannon will unveil the new Job Skills Certification program to the MYEP high school participants.
The new program provides intensive job skills training experience to students who are accepted into the MYEP program. Students who acquire the MYEP Skills Certification will have completed at least six hours of customer service, financial literacy, and job performance training and successfully demonstrated interview readiness and job search skills that will make them more marketable to potential employers. Training courses will be provided by MYEP in partnership with Goodwill Industries.
The MYEP provides internships for high school youth in the public, non-profit and private sectors. Youth are referred to the MYEP by program partners: Communities In Schools, Right Moves For Youth, Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont, the Mayor’s Mentoring Alliance agencies and the City of Charlotte Neighborhood & Business Services department. Internship placements are subject to availability.
