Mayor Foxx Proclaims Saturday November 26 to be ‘Small Business Saturday’ in Charlotte

November 17, 2011 (Charlotte) – Mayor Anthony Foxx has proclaimed Saturday, November 26 to be the second annual ‘Small Business Saturday’ in Charlotte as part of a national movement to support local small businesses on one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year. First there was Black Friday. Next came Cyber Monday. Now, there’s Small Business Saturday - a day everyone can celebrate as they support local small businesses that make vital contributions to our community and our local economy.
 
Helping small businesses thrive is key to creating a strong local economy and improving the overall quality of life in Charlotte. For every $100 spent in locally owned, independent stores, $68 returns to the local economy through taxes, payroll and other expenditures (Civic Economics).
 
On November 26, Mayor Foxx is asking citizens to support their favorite local stores while doing their holiday shopping and help fuel our local economy. Businesses are encouraged to participate by holding special events and promotions to draw consumers to their stores.
