The Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners hosted a Naming Ceremony for the Judge Clifton E. Johnson Building. The 2 p.m. outdoor ceremony on Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, took place on the Plaza side of the building at 700 East 4th Street in Charlotte, N.C.

In memory of his life and service, the Board voted on Aug. 14, 2012, to name the building for Judge Johnson who made history as the first African-American District Court Judge of Mecklenburg County, and as North Carolina’s first African-American Chief District Court Judge.
