Board Committees

Board committee assignments include four standing Board committees tied to the Board's four focus areas, as well as four ad hoc committees. 

These committees allow subcommittees of the Board to take time to research, analyze and discuss issues and recommendations that are ultimately provided to the full Board for a vote.

Standing Committees are:

  • Effective & Efficient Government: Responsible for making recommendations that support Mecklenburg County providing services in a highly effective, efficient and inclusive manner, and be accountable for results.

  • Health and Community Support Services: Makes recommendations to improve the health and well being of Mecklenburg County residents with emphasis on children, seniors and families.

  • Criminal Justice Committee: Responsible for making recommendations regarding the efficiency and effectiveness of the criminal justice system in Mecklenburg County.

  • Economic Development - This committee is responsible for making recommendations that contribute to business and job growth in Mecklenburg County.

Ad hoc Committees are:

  • Education Liaison: Recommends processes and practices that foster positive communication and working relationships between elected and appointed officials of Mecklenburg County, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and Central Piedmont Community College.

  • Community Building: This committee is responsible for making recommendations that build the community’s capacity to meet the needs of a diverse population, and to increase the appreciation of different ethnicities and cultures as valued parts of the community.

  • Compensation: This committee reviews the compensation of the County Manager.

  • Natural Resources Committee: Makes recommendations that support Mecklenburg County having a vibrant and diverse economy, while protecting its normal resources and enhancing the quality of life. 

 

Assignments are made by the Chairman.
