(A summary of decisions made by the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners:)

The Board adopted the following recognitions and proclamation:

The following people addressed the board about issues of interest.  View their statements to the Board online.

  • Martin Davis spoke about homosexuality
  • Maxine Eaves spoke about the naming of a new park on the east side

The Board made the following appointments:

  • Barbara Blakeney, Larry Blakeney, Dora Daniel, Betty Forehand, Cheryl Grice, Claire Lawrence, Peco McKoy, Claudia Moses, Joanne Nagem, Michael Nagem, Dicie Neal, Sheila Singleton and Patricia Wilson were appointed to the Nursing Home Advisory Committee
  • Emma Allen and Rev. Doctor Dwayne Walker were appointed to the Planning Commission
  • Allison Warren was appointed to the Waste Management Advisory Board


These steps have finalized the authorization process for a November 6, 2007 referendum. If approved in November, a portion of the funding will be included in the January 2008 bond sale.


  • County may continue to use the property rent-free for up to two and one-half years after closing (to allow time to complete the renovation of the Freedom Mall Property in order to relocate staff from the subject property);
  • New owner will be responsible for paying property taxes after closing (County will be responsible for utilities and maintenance during its occupancy).

The Hal Marshall Center houses services of the County's Land Use and Environmental Services Agency, Community Support Services, IST Department, and Health Department.
