Order of the Hornet

The Board of County Commissioners voted to induct Susan Burgess into the Order of the Hornet. Burgess is a member of the Charlotte City Council and Mayor pro-tem. Burgess recently announced that she is under the care of hospice for colorectal cancer that was diagnosed several years ago. The Order of the Hornet is the County's highest honor.

Budget Process

Management and Budget Director Hyong Yi described the process of the Board's consideration of the manager's recommended budget. The Board meets at 5pm Thursday to recommend changes and vote for each change individually, a process called a "Straw Vote."

Small Business Strategy

The Board approved the County's participation with the City of Charlotte to implement a Small Business Strategic Plan in collaboration with economic development partners. The board approved the concept of the collaboration in February. Since then all the partners have created a plan based on input from small business owners.
