County Appoints Airport Commission Representative
The Board selected business owner Randy Freeman to fill Mecklenburg County’s seat on the newly formed Charlotte Airport Commission. Freeman is the chief executive of Freeman Mortgage Services. He is the County’s only representative on the 13-member board.
Board Considers Naming County Courthouse
Commissioners discussed a proposal to name the Mecklenburg County Courthouse after civil rights attorney Julius Chambers. The issue has been deferred for further discussion at the Board’s next regular meeting on Oct. 15.
Commissioners Hear Plan for Compost Central Relocation
The BOCC is considering a move of the County’s Compost Central facility.
It is currently located on property leased from Charlotte Douglas International Airport. A planned 12,000 foot runway expansion is forcing cancellation of the lease.
The proposed new site is on Rozzelles Ferry Road. The Board could approve the relocation at its Oct. 15 regular meeting.
County Announces Manager Search Public Forum
The Board is seeking public input in its search for a new County manager.
Commission Chairman Pat Cotham reported plans for a public forum at the start of the regular meeting on Oct. 15. The public comments will be considered in the recruitment of County manager candidates.
