Airport Commission Update

The Board received an update on the Charlotte-Douglas Airport Commission from Charlotte City Manager Ron Carlee. On Aug. 9, 2013 a temporary injunction was granted halting legislation until the Federal Aviation Administration determines if the commission can operate under the City's certificate of operation or if a new certificate will be required.  Legislation dictates that the Board must appoint one member to the commission.

FY14 Planning Process

Management and Budget Director Hyong Li presented the planning process and timeline to assist the Board in developing a strategic agenda for the next 12-18 months. The County will seek community input on the agenda through a series of public forums and meetings.

Business Investment Program Grant

The Board approved a resolution for a $594,516 economic development grant to Cedar Fair Entertainment Company for the expansion of Carowinds in Charlotte.  The project will include a capital investment of approximately $43.5 million and is projected by Cedar Fair to increase annual attendance to Carowinds by an additional 385,000 customers and to create 15 full-time jobs.

MeckLINK Transition Update

The Board approved questions to be included in the Request for Information for Medicaid Managed Care Services. In June 2013 state legislators passed a law requiring the MeckLINK to be turned over to an authority with an independent board. Now the county is faced with either creating a single-county authority to oversee MeckLINK or merging it with a multicounty authority.

Implementation of Senate Bill 159 (2011 Property Revaluation)

The Board approved Pearson's Appraisal Services as the outside firm to work on the 2011 Property Revaluation.  Pearson’s will begin conducting a review of all property values in the County by neighborhood as required by Senate Bill 159 by Oct.1.
