Commission Capsule - April 2, 2013
Handguns in Parks

The Board discussed a proposed change to the Park and Recreation Ordinance that would restrict where concealed weapons could be carried on park property. The aim of the change, proposed by the park and recreation department, was to limit the park locations where people could carry a handgun, even those with concealed carry permits. Commissioner Rittenhour proposed a less restrictive change to the ordinance. Other commissioners supported the changes, saying it protects people taking advantage of park events and amenities. The Board directed the County Attorney to develop several new versions of the ordinance which the Board will consider at its May 7 meeting.

Board of Equalization and Review

The Board nominated all 41 applicants who applied for 15 positions on the Board of Equalization and Review. Nominees will be interviewed by the Revaluation Review Committee during the week of April 8 and the committee will make recommendations to the full BOCC for appointments. The Board decided in 2012 to appoint an entire new BER due to problems with the 2011 county-wide property revaluation.
