Each voting place is staffed with a Chief Judge, Republican Judge, Democratic Judge, Provisional/Transfer Assistant, Equipment Assistant and additional Assistants as needed based on projected voter turn-out.
All Judges are appointed by the Board of Elections based on political party and staff recommendations. Appointments are for a two year term beginning in August of odd-numbered years.
Assistants are not appointed, rather, are selected by the Chief Judge based on applicant experience and staff recommendations. Assistants should represent the diversity of each precinct keeping in mind the demographics of political party, race, age and gender, whenever possible.
Only one member of a family may serve as a precinct election official within the same precinct.
