County Announces Supportive Services Funding Awards for Three Agencies

Three community homeless services agencies received word on Sept. 24, 2014 of the County's plan to award up to $181,123 among the three for the first year of a two-year grant funding cycle.

The money is for supportive services to help rapidly rehouse families in Charlotte-Mecklenburg who are homeless. The County's Community Support Services department will allocate the money. The funds are expected to help up to 78 homeless families. The County's supportive services dollars will be paired with a rental assistance subsidy from the Foundation for the Carolinas.

The County's funding is for one year, with the second year contingent upon agency performance, financial availability and the population served. The following agencies will receive the funds:

Agency Name Supportive Services Request Supportive Services Award
Charlotte Family Housing $56,896 $56,896
The Salvation Army $60,470 $60,470
Supportive Housing Communities $63,757 $63,757
Year 1 Total: $181,123 $181,123

Background: Rental Assistance and Supportive Services Request for Proposal

Foundation for the Carolinas and Mecklenburg County Community Support Services are jointly accepting proposals from agencies that provide service to homeless families in Mecklenburg County. Funds are available from FFTC's A Way Home Housing Endowment Start-up Fund for rental assistance and supportive services, and from the County's Housing Stability and Supportive Service Fund.

The primary intent of this RFP is to 1) select and contract with qualified organizations demonstrating competencies in the Housing First Model and best practices in resident outcomes for eligible populations; 2) ensure health and safety of residents; and 3) demonstrate efficient and responsible use of funds.

The goal is to provide rental assistance and supportive services to homeless service providers and programs that support the goals of the Ten Year Plan to End and Prevent Homelessness.

For the purposes of this RFP, FFTC will allocate $125,000 from its A Way Home Housing Endowment Start-up Fund. Mecklenburg County Community Support Services will allocate up to $200,000 for supportive services for one fiscal year with a one-year renewal funding depending on recipient performance, funding availability and the eligible population served.
