County and City to Conduct Homeless Count
Preparations are underway for Charlotte-Mecklenburg’s annual Point-in-Time Count and Housing Inventory Count, which is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017.
The Point-in-Time Count is required annually by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. It captures the number of persons who are homeless on one night staying in shelters and on the streets. The Housing Inventory Count allows staff to assess the capacity to house persons who are homeless.
County and City employees are currently seeking volunteers and donations. If you are looking for a way to give this holiday season, there are several ways for you to get involved. Please consider donating a sleeping bag or a tarp that will go to people counted on the streets.
To collect as much data as possible, organizers need your help to locate persons who are homeless on the streets or in camps. If you would like to volunteer, a sign-up link along with information on how to donate or provide location information is available at the 2017 Point-in-Time Count Information Page.
