Budget Retreat Update
The 2016 Budget Retreat is right around the corner.
This year’s event will take place Wednesday, Jan. 27 beginning at 8:30 a.m. through Friday, Jan. 29 at noon at the Harris Conference Center, 3216 CPCC Harris Campus Drive, Charlotte.
During the three-day retreat, you will learn about various County initiatives and priorities and get a preview of budget items for FY17.
The meeting will be broadcast on The Government Channel (Time Warner Cable 16) and streamed online at mecklenburgcountync.gov. Live updates will also be available on Facebook and Twitter. Another Big Year for Park and Rec Capital Projects
2016 will be another big year for Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation capital projects.
The department will open several highly anticipated facilities including the Ramsey Creek Park Beach on Lake Norman (late May/early June), the newly renovated Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center (June 1) and phase II of the Mecklenburg County Sportsplex at Matthews (late fall). A groundbreaking is also scheduled in late fall for a new nature center at Latta Plantation.
In addition, Park and Recreation will renovate several park shelters and facilities including:
Freedom Park Shelters and Band ShellSeveral shelters will be demolished and replaced, the Band Shell will undergo routine maintenance and new accessible pathways will be installed from Mahlon Adams to the restrooms.Budget: $1,250,000Completion date: August 2016
Hornet's Nest Park ShelterShelter #1 will be enclosed for meeting space with new kitchen/restroom/storage additions and outdoor patio space. Improvements will be made to Shelter #2 to improve visibility and safety.Budget: $1,710,000Completion date: Jan. 2017
Veterans Park Shelter The shelter will undergo a complete renovation with the addition of new meeting space and a new standalone restroom building.Budget: $1,345,000Completion date: Jan. 2017

Mecklenburg County, the City of Charlotte and several local organizations will sponsor a Digital Charlotte Community Impact event on Saturday, Jan. 23, 8:30 – 11 a.m., at Industry Coworking inside the AvidXchange Music Factory, 1000 North Carolina Music Factory Blvd.
You are invited to attend the free event to learn about community efforts to bridge the digital divide and engage with community partners that offer digital training and education resources helping to empower communities through technology.
