Dr. Plescia to Participate in Real Men Wear Pink Campaign

Dr. Marcus Plescia has been selected as one of 12 community members to participate in the American Cancer Society’s Real Men Wear Pink campaign. The Mecklenburg County team will officially be announced at a reveal party on Wednesday, June 22.

The campaign aims to raise awareness to help fight breast cancer. Fundraising takes place August through October, with the goal of each candidate reaching or exceeding $2,500. Team members will participate in a friendly competition to raise money and commit to wearing pink every day in October. The winner will be recognized at the Oct. 15 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.

Good luck, Dr. Plescia!

Ramsey Creek Beach Update

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation and the Charlotte Area Transit System are offering a new way for residents to get to Ramsey Creek Beach.

On Saturday, June 18, the two agencies launched a free pilot shuttle service between the Huntersville-Northcross Park and Ride, 17126 Northcross Drive and Ramsey Creek Beach.

The pilot program, pending approval, will continue throughout the summer. The shuttle service will run on weekends and holidays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The shuttle service will discontinue after Labor Day weekend.
Beach visitors who ride the shuttle will have free access to the beach.

In addition to the shuttle service, Park and Recreation is considering increasing its Park entrance fees at Ramsey Creek.  The Board will address this matter during its June 21 meeting.

Park and Rec offers Free Fans for Seniors

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is helping senior adults beat the heat this summer by offering free fans at Park and Rec recreation and senior centers.

Seniors, ages 59 and older, will be allowed to pick up a fan starting today, and are asked to bring a driver’s license or state address providing proof of age and current age.

The fans are made possible by a grant from Duke Energy.
