Both the House and the Senate have passed their respective budget proposals. Here is a look at how the two stack up.

The General Assembly is still on track to have the budget finalized and to adjourn by the Fourth of July.

Juvenile Crime Prevention Council Needs Volunteers

The County is actively searching for advisory board applicants for the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (JCPC) to fill 10 vacancies later this month. We are working to build interest in the positions through postings on our website and in social media.

Membership of the JCPC should include a person under the age of 18, a member of the faith community and a substance abuse professional. We are specifically seeking eligible applicants for these positions. Other general public membership spots are open and also need applicants.

For more information about the JCPC, contact Criminal Justice Services Director Sonya Harper at 980-314-1701 or at Sonya.Harper@mecklenburgcountync.gov.

FY2017-2019 Corporate Strategic Business Plan Released

In 2015, the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners approved its revised Community Vision summarized by the tag line: "Mecklenburg County will be a community of pride and choice for people to Live, Learn, Work, and Recreate."

The four tenets of the Community Vision helped set the groundwork for the County’s Corporate Strategic Business Plan to include goal areas, outcomes, key performance indicators and key initiatives for FY2017-FY2019.

The Corporate Strategic Business Plan, which was just recently completed, reflects the County’s most important work for the next three years and considers the organizational and community priorities.

The five goal areas include:

1. Accountable Government
2. Connected Community
3. Economic Opportunities
4. Healthy Community
5. Safe Community
The seven key initiatives include:

1. Long-Term Financial Planning
2. Business Continuity
3. Enterprise Risk Management
4. Grants Management Strategy
5. Bringing Mecklenburg County to You
6. Land Disposition Strategy
7. Health and Human Services Integrated Service Delivery Model – Community Resource Centers

Celebrate the Phase II Opening of the Sportsplex at Matthews June 17

I would like to invite commissioners and the public to the grand opening for phase II of the Mecklenburg County Sportsplex at Matthews. Festivities take place on Saturday, June 17 beginning at 5 p.m., and include live music, kids’ activities and much more. Following the event, the facility will host a soccer game featuring the Charlotte Independence beginning at 7 p.m.

The Mecklenburg County Sportsplex at Matthews, which first opened in 2013, includes nine synthetic turf fields, two grass fields and a 2,500-seat grass stadium. All fields are multipurpose fields that can accommodate a variety of sports such as soccer, lacrosse, football, field hockey and rugby. The sportsplex also serves as a regional park with two playgrounds, shelters and walking trails.
