Community Service Grants Process Getting an Upgrade

The Community Service Grants (CSG) process recently underwent changes to improve controls, accountability and alignment to the County’s processes while supporting nonprofits’ self-sufficiency.

In FY2016, the target areas focused on training/placing of unemployed workers and promoting financial self-sufficiency will be combined into one target area: promoting residents’ financial self-sufficiency. Along with this change, organizations will have the opportunity to submit applications in partnership with other organizations.

The County will require them to be a member of the NC Center for Nonprofits and to submit audited financial statements prepared by an independent CPA, in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Final payment will be contingent upon organizations’ submission of a final report.
Organizations approved for funding will be limited to receiving funding for three consecutive years. This term is subject to change when the County’s Strategic Plan is on-boarded.

On Dec. 5, the County will hold two CSG Orientations in CMGC Room 267. The first session is scheduled for 10 a.m. and the second session at 1 p.m.

County Recognizes World AIDS Day with ‘The Voices Project’

In honor of World AIDS Day on Dec. 1, influential members of our community, including Health Director Dr. Marcus Plescia, will participate in The Voices Project at the Wells Fargo Auditorium, 430 S Tryon St. As storytellers, they will share personal accounts from some of our friends and family who are living with HIV and AIDS.

Doors open at 6 p.m. with a pre-show reception. This event is free, and open to the public. Donations will be accepted to benefit the programs and services provided by Regional AIDS Interfaith Network (RAIN).

For more information, contact Dr. Marcus Plescia at 980-314-9020 or marcus.plescia@mecklenburgcountync.gov.

Changes to North Carolina’s Subsidized Child Care Program

I want to update you on changes to North Carolina’s Subsidized Child Care program.

During the short session of the General Assembly, the legislature approved several policies that will affect families receiving child care assistance. These changes concern the income requirements for families eligible to participate in the program, the copayment amount for child care services and the income unit definition for a family receiving assistance.

For a complete list of changes, click here.
