Compliance Monitoring Begins for Volunteer Fire Departments 

The Human Services Finance Division is expanding its contract compliance monitoring to additional County partners. 
 
This month, they will begin requesting financial documentation from the area volunteer fire departments that contract with the County through LUESA.
 
The goal of contract monitoring is to ensure the contracts comply with the fiscal terms and conditions required by the County and practice sound stewardship of public funds. 
 
Until now, the Human Services Finance Division only monitored fiscal compliance of the service providers that contract through the County’s Human Services Agency which includes Social Services, Public Health, the Behavioral Health Division, Community Support Services and the Provided Services Organization.

Adams Named Deputy DSS Director
 
Rodney Adams has been named the deputy director of the Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services (DSS), effective Sept. 3, 2014. In this new role, Rodney will work closely with the division directors to ensure day-to-day operations are as effective and efficient as possible, focus on internal issues of the department, take on special projects, and act in the absence of the DSS director.
 
Rodney brings to his new position over 26 years of DSS experience, having served in various capacities, including as a case manager, lead worker, supervisor, and manager.
 
Rodney has served as director of the Support Services Division, director of the Services for Adults Division, and, most recently, as the director of the Economic Services Division, a role in which he guided that division through the conversion to NCFAST. With his leadership, Mecklenburg County has led the way across the state in managing the many challenges that came with the NCFAST conversion. 
 
Rodney has served on various boards and advisory groups throughout his tenure, and holds several memberships, including the National Guardianship Association, National Eligibility Workers, the North Carolina Social Services Association, and is a certified Bridges Out of Poverty Trainer. He completed his undergraduate studies at Coastal Carolina Community College, as well as at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, receiving County Administration certification from the UNC School of Government.

Web Redesign and Update On Track
 
The new MecklenburgCountyNC.gov web site remains on track to launch later this year.  
I have approved the newly designed templates that I am confident will provide a more current and consistent online experience for our customers.
 
The County manages approximately 8,000 pages and draws hundreds of thousands of clicks each month, which allows people to access information and services online instead of standing in line. 
 
Our goal is to create a 21st-century website that is less cluttered, more responsive, easier to navigate and encourages people to do their County business online.

County Assessor Partners With Regional Realtor® Association
 
Mecklenburg County Tax Assessor Ken Joyner continues to raise awareness about the ongoing efforts of the County’s Revaluation Review. The Assessor’s Office recently established a partnership with the Charlotte Regional Realtor® Association to distribute information to their vast network of area Realtors.
 
One of the items is an informational video from the Assessor for the group. You can watch it on the Realtor® Association’s online magazine at www.RealtorReflections.com. The Association will also send the video through two real estate membership newsletters, eHeadlines and Weekly News.
 
Realtors also have an opportunity to speak directly with the Assessor at the Realtor® Association’s 2014 Annual Candidate Fish Fry where Joyner will have informational booth.
 
The event is Thursday, Sept. 18 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the Regional Realtor® Association’s parking lot at 1201 Greenwood Cliff in Charlotte. The event is open to elected officials and the public. Tickets are $25.
