Business Investment Grant Program Update
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg
Business Investment Program (BIP) encourages the creation, retention, and/or expansion of new or existing businesses within Mecklenburg County. The BIP provides grants to companies based upon the amount of property tax generated by the firm’s new investments.
Investment, broadly defined as improvements to land and/or buildings, or the purchase or lease of new equipment, or buildings constructed for the qualifying company. Where circumstances warrant, however, grant calculations may give consideration to the value of leasehold improvements in existing buildings when it can be reasonably demonstrated that the lease will cause additional investment to replace the leased space, or that the lease results in a higher value for the building.
There are currently 24 active BIP grants. The chart below shows the names of the BIP grant recipients and the Board of County Commissioners district in which the firms are located.
It should be noted that the vast majority of grant recipients are located within Districts 2 and 3;
there are none located within Districts 4 or 5.
