Strategic Planning Conference Preview
The Board’s annual Strategic Planning Conference is scheduled for Thursday, January 29 and Friday, January 30 at the Lodge in Ballantyne. The Conference purpose is to identify the Board’s strategic priorities for the next fiscal year and beyond.
The agenda also will include updates on performance relative to the Board’s 2015 scorecard goals, as well discussion on potential changes to the scorecard. We also are including one overnight stay at the Lodge (at no cost to the County). This will provide an opportunity for Board members and senior staff to interact and socialize in an informal setting outside of the regular conference meetings.
In a separate memorandum, Management and Budget Director Hyong Yi will be asking Board members to identify key issues they would like to discuss at the Conference. We are asking Board members for these key issues in advance so staff has time to provide supporting information as needed.
We also have engaged Anne Udall, executive director of The Lee Institute to facilitate the Board’s priority setting process at the Conference. Ms. Udall has worked previously with the Board at previous planning conferences with good results.
Further details and the Conference agenda will be provided to Board members in advance of the Conference. For additional information, please contact

DSS Reorganization Update: Information & Technology
In the November 7 Board Bulletin, Board members learned about the reorganization planned within the Department of Social Services (
). Subsequently, I also approved an additional reorganization involving DSS and the County’s Information Services & Technology Department (
Effective December 17, we will consolidate the DSS Information Technology function within the County’s IST Department. This change allows DSS to focus on its core mission, while aligning IT resources with the County’s corporate approach to managing technology services.
This reorganization will involve reclassifying several positions being transferred from DSS to IST. Employees within those positions will be able to apply for the reclassified positions or other vacant positions within the County. We do not anticipate any layoffs as a result of this change.
