Overview
In May 2001, the Board of County Commissioners adopted a vision for Mecklenburg County to be a community of pride of choice for people to live, work and recreate. Nearly 10 years later, with the adoption of the Fiscal Year 2011 budget, the Board launched Mecklenburg County on a multi-year strategic path of redefining County government so programs and services fit the economic reality of the post Great Recession. This new approach included reassessing the vision.
From November 2010 to January 2011, residents and employees provided input about priorities for the community and County government over the next few years. Seven themes emerged as Critical Success Factors with the most potential to stimulate progress, sustain renewal of the community, and ensure organizational success. These factors and other priorities aligned with the County’s core functions guided the revisions to the Mecklenburg Community Vision and the accompanying Community & Corporate Scorecard, the County’s tool used for translating vision to action.
