 Juvenile Crime Prevention Council

The Mecklenburg County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (JCPC) is statutorily authorized advisory board charged with:

  • Reviewing the needs of juveniles who are delinquent or at-risk of becoming court-involved;
  • Assessing local service needs; and,
  • Presenting an annual service proposal to the Board of County Commissioners.

The JCPC mission is to address the gaps in youth services by promoting prevention, intervention, treatment, and aftercare strategies and programs which strengthen families and support community safety.

The North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (DJJDP) subsidizes funding to local JCPCs to help reduce and prevent juvenile crime. Each year, the Department of Juvenile Justice disburses over $20 million across the 100 North Carolina counties. In FY 15-16, Mecklenburg County received approximately $1.4 million from the DJJDP and the money was awarded to eleven program providers in the community. The table below lists the organizations and programs to which DJJDP and local in-kind funds were distributed.
