About the Vaccine

We encourage all eligible residents to get a flu shot this season, whether it is at a physician’s office, another provider such as a drug or grocery store, or at the Health Department.

Please call 704-336-6500 for an appointment. Flu shots will cost $30 for residents 6-months of age and older, $40 for “high dose” flu shots for those 65 years of age and older to generate a stronger immunity against the flu, and $35 for Flu Mist for residents ages two to 49 years of age  who have no medical problems and are not pregnant.

The CDC recommends that everyone 6 months of age and older get the flu shot this year. This will protect all residents from getting the flu and will help to make this flu season a mild one.

The 2011-2012 vaccine will protect against an influenza A H3N2 virus, an influenza B virus and the H1N1 virus that emerged in 2009 to cause a pandemic. This means everyone over 9 years old will need just 1 shot. Everyone under 9 years, who did not get a flu vaccine last year will need 2 shots.
