The Mecklenburg County Health Department Health Promotion Program is partnering with Youth Empowered Solutions (YES!) to start a Youth Nutrition/Physical Activity Policy Council. All 9th, 10th, and 11th graders living in Mecklenburg County were invited to apply to be in the council.

This youth-led council gives young people the opportunity to engage in youth advocacy and policy change around Nutrition/Physical Activity for Mecklenburg County, NC.  
 
On Thursday, March 3, 2011, Youth Nutrition/Physical Activity Policy Council 24 applicants participated in a interactive group interview process which included:

• an overview on council duties and responsibilities
• team building exercises
• a brainstorming session to identify barriers to good nutrition and adequate physical activity in Mecklenburg County
