Children’s Alliance of Mecklenburg County Focuses on Supporting Employee Health
Children's Alliance - employee on exercise ballBesides serving the needs of children in Mecklenburg County, which can sometimes be challenging and stressful, the Children’s Alliance of Mecklenburg County is now working on improving its employees’ health.

One of the annual goals adopted by the members of the coalition is to focus on the health of their staff. Thirteen member organizations have completed worksite wellness assessments with Working Toward Wellness and received recommendations as well as resources to help create healthier work environments.

“Launching this program has helped our staff remember to take care of ourselves as well as our patients and clients”, said Katie Benston of Care Ring, “Just as we tell them, small steps can make a difference.”

The organizations represented in the Children’s Alliance of Mecklenburg County are on the front lines in addressing children’s needs by working collectively to identify, advocate and act upon real solutions for the challenges as well as barriers faced by the children of the community.

Many of the organizations located in the Children and Family Services Center (CFSC) facility have come together to create a building-wide Worksite Wellness Team, which is collectively making changes to the work environment that impacts the entire building. Their projects include improving healthy snack vending, holding a building-wide health fair, arranging for onsite fitness classes, holding monthly lunch and learn sessions as well as requesting healthy options in the onsite coffee cart.

By identifying employee health as a priority, the Children’s Alliance has impacted hundreds of employees. Joining the member organizations represented in the CFSC building has led to accomplishment of much more together than they ever would have apart.
