Our Mission and Vision

Supporting healthy behaviors -
from the BOARDROOM to the BREAK-ROOM.

The mission of Working Toward Wellness is to assist worksites in developing policies and environmental changes that will create a work environment where living a healthy lifestyle is simple and fun. Those changes will focus on healthy eating, physical activity, and tobacco use.

The vision of the Working Toward Wellness team is to provide worksites in Mecklenburg County with tools and resources to create policy and environmental changes that help develop a culture of wellness in the workplace.

Those changes will support and sustain healthy lifestyles for their employees not only in the workplace, but through all aspects of their life and positively impact the lives of those around them. The ultimate goal is to create work environments that support and encourage healthy living and that will reduce chronic diseases that can result from sedentary lifestyles, unhealthy eating, and tobacco use.

We intend to accomplish this vision by providing education, networking, resources and support for worksites that are interested in creating healthier work environments for their employees. We will host a series of meetings that will provide educational content and networking opportunities for worksite wellness professionals and advocates. We will continue to provide free onsite assessments and recommendations to individual businesses and offer resources through the Working Toward Wellness website which is currently under development.

Working toward Wellness is funded by Action Communities for Health, Innovation, and Environmental Change (ACHIEVE), collaboration between the CDC’s Healthy Communities Program & the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD).
