- A family's knowledge of community resources and its participation in health awareness activities can go a long way toward preventing child abuse and protecting kids.
Families will have a chance to gain that knowledge and participate in health awareness activities on Wednesday, July 17, at a family health fair sponsored by the Mecklenburg County Health Department. "It's a Family Affair" will be held at the Health Department’s northwest campus at 2845 Beatties Ford Road from 9:00a.m. to 2:00p.m.
The goal of this event is to promote programs within the Health Department and the community that support, enhance and enrich families in an effort to prevent child abuse and neglect and to promote health education and awareness.
Attendees will learn about programs that encourage early prenatal care, well-child care, early intervention, immunizations, parenting skills, child development, family health promotion, car seat safety and Pre-K screenings for the Bright Beginnings program. There also will be food, door prizes and activities for children including storytelling, puppet shows, arts and crafts, and a scavenger hunt.
Information will be available from a variety of agencies within the Mecklenburg County Health Department, as well as Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, the Beatties Ford Road Public Library, Mecklenburg Safe Communities Program and others.
