MECKLENBURG COUNTY RECEIVES 30,000 TONS OF
YARD DEBRIS SINCE DECEMBER 5
Charlotte, NC - Mecklenburg County's yard waste recycling centers have received 150,000 cubic yards of yard debris in the two weeks since the December 5 ice storm. That translates into approximately 30,000 tons of trees, limbs, leaves, and other yard debris.
The public and contractors-for-hire can continue to drop off yard waste at the County's four yard waste facilities. Hours will remain extended until after Christmas day, when the schedule returns to normal (7 a.m. - 3 p.m.) The holiday schedule is as follows:
Friday, December 20: 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Saturday, December 21: 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Sunday, December 22: CLOSED
Monday, December 23: 7 a.m. 5 p.m.
Tuesday, December 24: CLOSED
Wednesday, December 25: CLOSED
Thursday, December 26: 7 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Drop-off fees at the yard waste facilities will also be waived through January 1, 2003. Mecklenburg County's four yard waste facilities are:

Residents of the City of Charlotte and the County's six towns can continue to deposit yard waste at the curb for pick-up by their municipality.
Yard waste received at the facilities is ground into mulch or compost and offered for sale at prices varying from $3.50 to $23 per cubic yard. Mecklenburg County residents can call 704-588-9070 to arrange for purchase and delivery of mulch or compost. Check the Web site
