State of the Environment:
COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO RECEIVE BIENNIAL REPORT
Charlotte, NC - Nearly 15 years ago, the first Mecklenburg County "State of The Environment" report was prepared for the citizens of Mecklenburg County and the Board of County Commissioners. The 2002 report will be presented to the Board on June 4, 2002, at their regular meeting. The meeting will begin at 6:00pm in the Meeting Chamber of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center.
The "State of the Environment" report has become a benchmark for describing environmental conditions in the county. More than a decade and seven reports later, the purpose of the "State of the Environment" report has been and remains:
· To describe Mecklenburg County's current environmental status for the public and the Board of County Commissioners.
· To give the County objective measures to evaluate progress toward a clean, healthy environment.
· To highlight the major issues facing the County.
· To recommend direction concerning those issues.
The 2002 report includes sections on Air Quality, Water Quality and Land Resources. It provides information, environmental data and photographs in a design that is easy to read and appealing. The "State of the Environment" report will be distributed to libraries, schools, and organizations that regularly use the information. Extra copies will also be available to the general public. Additionally, the report will be viewable online at
