STATE TECHNOLOGIES ASSOCIATION HONORS J1C
Charlotte, NC -- A North Carolina association whose mission is to make technology number one in the state has given a top award to Just1Call, the Mecklenburg County information services program for seniors, adults with disabilities, and their families.
The North Carolina Electronics and Information Technologies Association (NCEITA) awarded the Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services program with a top technology honor.
"It is tremendously gratifying being recognized by the experts in the field of information technology,'' said Alan Geltman, program administrator. "It has been our goal to use state-of-the-art systems to enhance the service to our customers. Through collaboration with the county's computer and communication experts, Just1Call is very proudly meeting that goal."
J1C received the award for Top Government/Not-for-Profit Technology of the Year during a Nov. 21, 2002 ceremony in Raleigh.
"The NCEITA 21 Awards showcase accomplishments in excellence, innovation and leadership in the Information Technologies industry," Dave Rizzo, NCEITA chairman, wrote to DSS. "Your selection means that your peers consider Mecklenburg County Social Services to be a leader in North Carolina and a role model of performance."
J1C was launched in September 2000 to help callers and visitors to its Web site connect with a variety of services, including transportation and housing, health care services and products, financial aid, social activities and legal services. Just1Call's highly trained social workers assess customer needs, identify resources and offer assistance and advocacy in connecting their customers with a variety of resources.
The County's Information Services & Technology Department and the Department of Social Services jointly developed Just1Call. This is the second major award received by Just1Call, which also received the Charlotte Chamber's Blue Diamond Award for technology innovation in the category of Large Corporations.
