Charlotte, NC – According to a recent study by the American Lung Association, Charlotte-Mecklenburg ranks 9 th in the nation for the worst smog and ozone pollution.  That’s higher than New York City, Philadelphia and Dallas.  Now citizens have an opportunity to learn what they can do to help and get some exercise at the same time. 

On Saturday, May 11, 2002, Mecklenburg County residents are invited to participate in the Care for the Air 8-K Run/Walk and 1-mile Fun Run.  The race will be held at Ballantyne Corporate Park, 13777 Ballantyne Corporate Place in Charlotte.  The 8-K begins at 8:00am with the 1-mile Fun Run to follow.   

Fees:    ¨8-K (pre-registration) =   $12

              ¨8-K (race day) =               $2

              ¨Fun Run =                          $5

The Care for the Air Run 2002 is a not-for-profit road race, hosted by the Charlotte Air Quality Coalition as part of the N.C. Air Awareness Program.   Due to the impact of ground level ozone on children, especially those with asthma, race proceeds will fund scholarships for children to attend American Lung Association-sponsored asthma camps in Charlotte and Gastonia. 

Directions: Take I-77 South to Exit I-485 East / Take I-485 East to exit 61 (US 521 South) / Proceed South on US 521 / Pass underneath a bridge and take the first right onto John J. Delaney Dr. / Take the first right onto Brixham Hill Drive / Parking will be on the left.
