County Declares State of Emergency

Board of County Commission Chairman Tom Cox has declared a State of Emergency in Mecklenburg County. By state statute, the BOCC Chairman can proclaim a state of emergency in order to maintain public order and protect life and property. The declaration allows Mecklenburg County to restrict movement of persons upon the streets and public places, regulates the price of gasoline, kerosene and other substances. The declaration may continue for five days.

Meantime, many County services have been curtailed because of power outages at County facilities. The Billingsley Road Complex which includes DSS, Youth & Family Services, Area Mental Health and Health Departments is without power. Please call ahead before driving to one of the County facilities to receive services.
