WHAT: Public Forum: "Changes in Community Mental Health"
The first in a series of planned community forums designed to provide the public with information about changes in mental health services, and to provide feedback from citizens to the Mecklenburg County Area Mental Health Authority (AMHA).
Representatives from AMHA will discuss state required changes in the way persons receive mental health, substance abuse and developmental disability services and how AMHA is responding to those changes.
WHEN: 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2003
WHERE: Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 3239 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte, NC
WHO: Mecklenburg Area Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Authority. This first community-centered public forum is intended for residents who live in neighborhoods located in the following zip code areas: 28202, 28203, 28206, 28208, 28214, 28216 and 28217.
Grayce Crockett, the AMHA director will be among the speakers.
WHY: North Carolina is mandating that every area program create a business plan to direct how it will manage the increasingly limited funds available for mental health, substance abuse and developmental disability services. The plan will include increased community involvement and collaboration with other agencies.
Information about new and important roles for communities, clients, families and service providers will be presented. Community residents are invited to talk about ways Area Mental Health can change or improve to better provide those services.
