REGISTER OF DEEDS ANNOUNCES NEW OFFICE HOURS
Charlotte, NC -- Mecklenburg County's continuing budget crunch is putting a squeeze on operating hours at the Register of Deeds office. Beginning tomorrow, July 1, 2003, the office will open later and close earlier than its previous 7a.m. to 6 p.m. time frame.
The new hours for conducting general record searches will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) document searches and walk-in document recording must be conducted between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
All members of the public will be required to vacate searches and leave the Register of Deeds Office promptly at 5 p.m. No walk-in documents will be recorded after 4:30 p.m.
"This is a challenging time for everyone who has a vested interest in Mecklenburg County government," said Judy Gibson, Mecklenburg County Register of Deeds. "The staff of this department is committed to delivering the best possible service, and we are working to provide alternative solutions and finding additional ways, whenever possible, to deliver desired services."
The reduction in operating hours is necessary due to a 95 percent reduction in the overtime budget for the Register of Deeds office, Gibson said.
Thanks to eGovernment, customers can access some of the Register of Deeds documents 24/7.
