WHY: The New Mecklenburg County Courthouse is scheduled for completion in the winter of 2006. The Judicial Center complex will feature the new courthouse, renovated facilities for criminal justice system agencies and a new parking deck. The new courthouse will be nine stories high, 568,000 square feet and consist of 34 fully functional courtrooms. An additional five courtrooms will be "shelled," ready to be furnished and staffed when the need arrives. A new parking deck to serve the Judicial Center is currently in the design phase.
