COMMISSIONER NORMAN MITCHELL NAMED TO NATIONAL HOMELAND SECURITY TASK FORCE
Charlotte, NC - A Mecklenburg County Commissioner has been tapped to help guide homeland security policies for counties nationwide.
Norman A. Mitchell Sr. has been selected to serve on the National Association of Counties (NACo) Homeland Security Task Force. The task force provides a forum for counties to focus on their roles and responsibilities as first responders and will be instrumental in revising the NACo position paper "Policy Agenda to Secure the People of America's Counties."
The position paper was drafted shortly after September 11, 2001. It offers a number of policy recommendations to Congress and addresses the key responsibilities that counties have in the area of homeland security. It also provides legislative guidance to NACo and outlines how the federal government can best assist counties in securing their homelands.
"I am honored to have the opportunity to serve in this capacity," said Commissioner Mitchell. "It is imperative that we explore all the issues related to homeland security and assure that we have adequate resources to keep our communities safe."
Mitchell, a Democrat representing District 2, is serving his third term on the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners.
