CHARLOTTE-MECKLENBURG SENIOR GAMES:
TRACK & FIELD EVENTS WILL DOMINATE "SUPER SATURDAY"

Charlotte, NC – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Senior Games' SUPER SATURDAY is May 3, 2003, with most track and field events taking place at UNC Charlotte. Track and field activities will take place 8 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at the UNC Charlotte track complex.

Super Saturday events include croquet, 100-, 200- and 800-meter dash, basketball shoot and football throw, field events, 1,500-meter race walk, and more.  While registration is closed for participants, all activities are open and free to the viewing public.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Senior Games includes participants from Mecklenburg, Gaston, Lincoln Counties. The games will take place through May 9, featuring seniors age 55 or better. Athletes participate in a wide variety of athletic events, or in one of many visual, heritage, literary, and performing arts.

Silver Arts:
Seniors showing off their talents in the performing arts entries will take part in a talent show on Tuesday, May 6, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Grady Cole Center, 310 North Kings Drive.  Winners will be announced and medals awarded after the show.

All visual, heritage and literary arts entries will be on display at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Senior Center, 2225 Tyvola Road, Charlotte, through May 9. 

Medal winners in all sports and Silver Arts will be invited to participate in the Senior Games State Finals held in Raleigh in the fall.  Medal winners in the State Finals are invited to the National Games, held at various locations around the nation.
