MECKLENBURG COUNTY TO COLLECT TAXES FOR TOWNS OF DAVIDSON AND HUNTERSVILLE
Charlotte, NC - Beginning this year, the Mecklenburg County Tax Collector is collecting real estate and personal property taxes for the Town of Davidson and the Town of Huntersville. Instead of receiving two tax bills - one from the County, one from the town - property owners in those towns will receive one consolidated bill for real estate and personal property taxes.
In exchange for collecting the taxes, each town will pay the County $2 for every tax bill created. In FY2003-2004, Mecklenburg County expects to receive $7,530 from the Town of Davidson and $29,956 from the Town of Huntersville for providing this service.
"These agreements provide a service to the taxpayers of these municipalities by having one taxing authority collect the Town and County taxes," says Neal Dixon, Mecklenburg County Tax Collector. "It is a more efficient arrangement that simplifies the process for the taxpayer and saves the municipality time and money."
The Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners approved both agreements on June 3, 2003. Mecklenburg County now collects taxes for the City of Charlotte, Davidson, Huntersville, Mint Hill, Matthews and Pineville. Property owners in Cornelius will continue to receive two bills for their real estate and personal property taxes.
