COUNTY COMMISSIONERS APPOINT NEW
TAX ASSESSOR FOR MECKLENBURG COUNTY
Charlotte, NC - The Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners has appointed Garrett Alexander as the County’s new Tax Assessor. Mr. Alexander will oversee the Property Assessment and Land Records Management division of LUESA (Land Use and Environmental Services Agency). He is expected to begin his duties with Mecklenburg County in early February.
The office of Property Assessment and Land Records Management is responsible for overseeing the valuation of all taxable property in Mecklenburg County, including real estate, personal property and vehicles. The office also manages the County’s land records, mapping and addressing.
Mr. Alexander has been the Tax Administrator in Robeson County, N.C. since October 2001. He is credited with reorganizing the tax office there, transforming it from one of North Carolina’s poorest performing tax offices to one of the most efficient.
Mr. Alexander has also worked as the Tax Administrator in Cumberland County, N.C. (1996 - 2000) and as the assessor/land records manager in Union County, N.C. (1993 - 1996). Before beginning his career in government, Mr. Alexander worked in banking - for American Commercial Savings Bank, United Carolina Bank, NCNB and Wachovia.
Mr. Alexander is a graduate of East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C. He is certified by the North Carolina Department of Revenue as an assessor and collector.
