Mecklenburg County offers summer activities
Park & Rec, Cooperative Extension and the Library have lots of fun things for your children to do this summer.

Charlotte, NC - The calendar may say March, and the red in the thermometer may remain low, but now is the time to think about how your children and teens will spend their summer vacation. Mecklenburg County offers numerous activities for children of all ages.  The earlier you sign up, the better chance you have of getting the activity of your choice.

· Park and Recreation offers a variety of regular and specialty summer day camps in partnership with the YMCA of Greater Charlotte.  More information is available at your local YMCA branch, on the Web site, or by calling 704-336-3854.

· Cooperative Extension's 4-H Youth Development offers a week at camp in Reidsville, N.C.  June 13 - 18, 2004.  Campers will enjoy a week of swimming, canoeing, horseback riding, climbing, archery, crafts, environmental studies, etc.  Older groups will participate in team building and high ropes.  Evening programs consist of a talent show, land and water sports, campfires and more.  Camp is for boys and girls ages 8 - 14.  The cost is $285 due by April 1. · The Public Library's summer reading programs encourage kids to read-and have fun along the way! Beginning June 9, kids of all ages can sign up for a summer reading program.
- Read to Me: For children under 4 years old.
- Discover New Trails at Your Library: For 4 year olds through rising fifth-graders.
- Train Your Brain: Rising sixth-graders through rising 12th -graders.
