COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO RECOGNIZE FOSTER FAMILY
Charlotte, NC - May is Foster Care Appreciation month - a time when the Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services (DSS) and Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) recognize and say thank you to the 168 licensed foster families who have opened their hearts and homes to children in DSS custody.
On Tuesday, May 18, the BOCC will recognize one family that has cared for more than 20 foster youth; Owen and Hazel Dildy are the 2003-2004 Foster Family of the year.
The Dildys have served as foster parents for the last 15 years. They are currently fostering two children, and have raised two biological children and four adopted children.
They received their Foster Parent of the Year award at the DSS annual Foster and Adoptive Parent Appreciation Dinner, May 14, at University Park Baptist Church. This annual celebration honors and shows appreciation to families for keeping children safe and providing a loving environment.
